Steady Water Waves

چکیده
We present a survey of certain aspects of the theory of steady water waves with emphasis on the role played by vorticity. Historical background, numerical illustrations, and brief discussions of the time-dependent problem and of approximate models are included as well.

Effects of Valve Closing Law and Unsteady Friction Model on Damping Pressure Waves in a Network
Water-hammer is a transient condition which may occur in a network as a result of rapid or slow valve closures, pump failures, changes in turbine loading, etc. It creates high and low pressure waves which travel along the system and decay as a result of wall shear stress. Comparison o experimental and theoretical results revealed the failure of steady or quasi-steady models in correctly predict...

متن کاملSteady dark solitary waves emerging from wave-generated meanflow: the role of modulation equations.
Various classes of steady and unsteady dark solitary waves (DSWs) are known to exist in modulation equations for water waves in finite depth. However, there is a class of steady DSWS of the full water-wave problem which are missed by the classical modulation equations such as the Hasimoto-Ono, Benney-Roskes, and Davey-Stewartson. These steady DSWs, recently discovered by Bridges and Donaldson, ...

متن کاملNon-existence of solitary water waves in three dimensions.
In the subject of free-surface water waves, solitary waves play an important role in the theory of two-dimensional fluid motions. These are steady solutions to the Euler equations that are localized, positively elevated above the mean fluid level and travelling at velocities with supercritical Froude number. They provide a stable mechanism in bodies of water for transport of mass, momentum and ...
